Neil Evans' Tips For Gosford (Thursday)

By Neil Evans

Track Soft 5 and rail true:

Race 1 - 12:50PM ADVANCE BUILDING SERVICES 2&3YO MAIDEN (1100 METRES)

3. Zing To Me is an emerging metropolitan-based filly by Capitalist who can pounce first-up off a long break in just her second start. Won both lead-up trials in heavy ground, and gets first use of the inside on an improving surface. 5. Jimmy Recard is a two-year-old colt also resuming, and a natural betting watch having his first run in NSW since being well beaten in Listed company during the Melbourne spring. Was scratched from Wednesday's Kensington meeting to be saved for this. 6. Just Legendary is a two-year-old by Justify on debut in blinkers for the Gai Waterhouse-Adrian Bott stable behind two progressive trial wins in heavy going.

Race 2 - 1:25PM JOHN SINGLETON GROUP CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

3. Hawker Hall looks a good thing here third-up over a furlong further, especially with the early favourite being preferred at the Kensington meeting on Wednesday. Thrashed his opposition as a hot favourite when fresh seven weeks ago before being run down late at Newcastle when five weeks between runs. Likes to roll forward, and should land a plum spot in the run. 6. Honey Perfume has beaten all but the winner in her last two, although the form from that most recent CL1 at this track isn't strong. 7. Now You've Done It, a lightly raced filly who rushed home to claim her maiden here first-up off a lengthy break, and 5. Mal Coupe 17 days after a dominant second-up win in the country; can both add value into exotic returns.

Race 3 - 2:05PM RUSSELL RAYMOND MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

6. Signor Tortoni is a promising metro three-year-old who can bounce back after being beaten as a long odds-on favorite at Goulburn three weeks back, especially with the main market rival coming out. Far more comfortable here on a drier surface, and possibly ridden a touch quieter over a furlong further. Was twice beaten by under a length after showing speed in city company earlier in the year, and looks a good thing against this lot. 9. Valentiago resumes as a gelding for his second start off two trials, and can run the quinella. Gap to the rest headed by 3. Justice Warrior.

Race 4 - 2:40PM SHARP DS PROVINCIAL CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2100 METRES)

2. Golden Smile is a tough mare and likely favorite who can make it two wins from her last three in what is a weak lineup. Suited now over a longer trip on firmer ground, dropping back from a tougher race on the Kensington track where she floundered in heavy going. 6. Murphilly can improve sharply fourth-up back on a firmer surface after being beaten a long way in very heavy going 16 days ago, with the winner of that race saluting again last Sunday. 5. Mr Conspiracy is over the odds third-up from a soft draw. 8. Pro Velocity is very fit deep into the prep.

Race 5 - 3:15PM CHRISTMAS IN JULY @ TEG 19 JULY 2025 SUPER MAIDEN (1600M)

1. Unusual Prospect is a talented and lightly raced four-year-old who has this at his mercy, resuming off two progressive trials in heavy going. Showed his potential when fresh last time, powering home from well back to miss by a head over the mile. Has all the class here in what is a weak lineup, despite drawing wide. 3. The Beast is an honest improver who can run the quinella third-up getting back on a firmer surface, with blinkers coming off. Has been in the placings six times from eight starts. 5. The Iron Star second-up and 6. Ivy Legend well into her initial prep can both run into the minor money.

Race 6 - 3:50PM CENTRAL COAST WEDDING FAIR @ TEG 21 SEPTEMBER BM64 (1600M)

6. Covert Thinking is an emerging metro filly bred to get further who can put two wins together at only her fourth start. Finished best from the trail to win here in heavy going a fortnight ago, and with the 3kg-claiming jockey sticking solid, this isn't a whole lot harder from a similar draw. 2. Surreal I Am is a progressive four-year-old chasing his third win in four starts, returning from a campaign on the Qld provincial scene. Twice overhauled his opposition from well back, but that was in moderate fields on the Sunshine Coast polytrack, and must be under the odds against a few of these back on turf. 4. Rhegion failed to run home in heavy ground at Kembla after a dominant third-up maiden win, but the improving track is a plus. 5. Tip Top Timing fourth-up is a knockout chance.

Race 7 - 4:25PM LAKEY LEGENDS BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

3. Diddle Dumpling is a capable filly who looks set to resume with a bang behind two improving trials. Landed her maiden convincely third-up late last spring before freshened into two fair efforts against tougher company, then spelling. Right at home in soft ground, and is suited being drawn wider out late in the day where she can settle back and get to the outside from the 300m. 6. Burj resumes for a second prep from a low draw, and did win a heandy Super maiden on debut late last year. 1. Power Ballard improves third-up dropping back from a tougher metro field; while 2. Miss Cartel is trained on the track and over the odds first-up in suitable ground.

BEST BETS:
R1 3. ZING TO ME
R3 6. SIGNOR TORTONI

BEST VALUE:
R7 3. DIDDLE DUMPLING
